40 years ago to the day Apollo 17th launched to the moon. It was the last of the lunar landings. This mission hold a special place in my heart as it was the one mission I remember seeing as a child. I distinctly recall, late for Kindergarten, being dragged away from the TV, while watching the two astronauts bounding about the surface.

You can see a clip of them doing that here, skipping along and  singing! I was enthralled. My love of all things space came from this moment.

There is a great book about this mission, aptly called: The Last Man on the Moon: Astronaut Eugene Cernan and America’s Race in Space

As well here’s a 30 min documentary on the mission.
